Court Restores Ararume As NNPCL Chair, Says Removal Unlawful

BREAKING] NNPCL: Court reverses Ararume sacking, awards N5bn damages against  Buhari

The Federal High Court, Abuja has declared illegal and unlawful the sack of Sen. Ifeanyi Ararume as Non-Executive Chairman of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the verdict on Tuesday, saying his removal was unconstitutional and as such the court restored him as the Non- Executive Chairman of the company with full benefits.

The judge also set aside every decision taken by the board that was appointed after Ararume’s removal.

Justice Ekwo awarded N5 billion as damages in favour of Ararume.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had sacked the former senator on January 17, 2023 as NNPCL chief.

An aggrieved went to court to seek redress, asking for an oder nullify his removal.

He averred that it was illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional and that it was a total breach of CAMA law under which the NNPCL was incorporated.

He further prayed the court to issue an order to return him to office and also demanded N100 billion as compensation for the damages he suffered nationally and internationally.
