
Former Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha has finally been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Okorocha was arrested amid gunshots on Tuesday evening after a nine-hour standoff at his Maitama-Abuja residence.
The former Imo State governor, had earlier refused to be taken away by the operatives, insisting that he will not submit himself to the anti-graft agency without a warrant for his arrest.
Okorocha, who is seeking the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress was finally arrested when the EFCC operatives forcefully gained access into his house at about 6:50pm.
EFCC’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwajuren had said earlier that the anti-graft agency’s operatives were at the Senator’s home to bring him to stand trial before a federal high court in Abuja for allegedly conspiring with five companies and others to steal N2.9bn in public funds.
Other defendants standing trial in the case include Anyim Nyerere Chinenye, Naphtali International Limited, Perfect Finish Multi Projects Limited, Consolid Projects Consulting Limited, Pramif International Limited, and Legend World Concepts Limited.
