Fresh Legal Trouble Brews For ‘President-Elect’ Tinubu As His Guinean Passport Surfaces Online

Fresh trouble is brewing for Nigeria’s ‘president-elect’ Bola Ahmed Tinubu if the picture making the rounds on social media is authentic.

A passport, showing that Tinubu has a dual citizenship has just been published by one of Nigeria’s best investigative journalist, David Hundeyin.

The photo show a Guinean passport, purportedly belonging to Mr. Tinubu.

This would contravene the Nigerian constitution.

Section 137 (1) (a) of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria provides “A person shall not be qualified for election to the office of President if subject to the provisions of Section 28 of this Constitution, he has voluntarily acquired the citizenship of a country other than Nigeria or, except in such cases as may be prescribed by the National Assembly, he has made a declaration of allegiance to such other country.”

According to the passport, the former Lagos State Governor acquired the passport of Guinea Republic in 2015.

This apart, on Tinubu’s INEC EC9 declaration, a copy of which was published by Mr. Hundeyin, he stated that he has not obtained any other citizenship.

But with his Guinean passport stating clearly that he was born in Nigeria – it means he obtained Guinean citizenship.

This could amount to the criminal offence of perjury -lying under oath.

The Tinubu Campaign had yet to respond to this as at the time of filing this report.
