
Three persons have been confirmed dead, and as many as 84 others injured in an accident involving a train and a Lagos State BRT staff bus in Shogunle area of Ikeja, Lagos.
The incident happened on Thursday morning and the two casualties were said to be staff of the Lagos State government.
It was gathered the BRT staff bus was trying to cross to cross the rail line when the accident happened, as the train hit the bus and dragged it from PWD Bus Stop to Shogunle, where it stopped.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the driver refused to stop at the level crossing.
The South-West Zonal Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Ibrahim Farinloye confirmed the accident, saying the State Government staff bus was trying to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing while the train coming into Lagos from Abeokuta trapped the bus on its rail.
He said operations are ongoing and that “the removal of the carcass of the bus is ongoing.”
Meanwhile, officials of LASEMA, NEMA, Police, FRSC, CIVIL DEFENCE, and Nigeria Railway Corporation team have arrived at the rescue scene.
