Buhari Warns Against Post-Election Violence, Insists He Has No Candidate

President Muhammadu Buhari has warned against riots or acts of violence after the announcement of the election results.

Buhari gave the warning on Thursday in a statement via his verified Twitter handle, stressing again that he would be neutral and allow the rule of law to take precedence over political expediency.

The President advised that all grievances, personal or institutional, be channelled to relevant courts.

He recalled that today marks one year since he signed the Electoral Act 2022.

According to hi, the Act is one of the most important legacies of his administration, noting that it has made a significant contribution to improving the quality of the country’s electoral process.

Buhari said, “Since my assumption of office, we have worked so hard to ensure that we pass on a legacy of free, fair, credible, safe, and peaceful elections. We will continue to act with neutrality and allow the rule of law to take precedence over political expediency.

“Saturday, February 25, 2023, will make it exactly one year since I assented to the Electoral Act 2022, one of the most important legacies of our Administration, and a significant contribution to our vision of improving the quality of Nigeria’s electoral process.

“There should be no riots or acts of violence after the announcement of the election results. All grievances, personal or institutional, should be channelled to the relevant Courts.”
