The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on Friday hailed his supporters in Oyo State, saying “I heard you loud and clear.”
Some of them had chanted his name on Thursday in Ibadan while Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State addressed the crowd at the inauguration of Governor Seyi Makinde’s reelection campaign in Ibadan.
Other G5 governors, who had refused to support Atiku, were also present at Mapo Hall venue of the event.
Loyalists of the former Vice President were heard chanting “Atiku, Atiku, Atiku…” as they heckled the leader of the G-5 governors, who was urging the people to vote for Makinde and other PDP candidates in the state.
Reacting to the chants of support for him, Atiku said, “I take it warmly as a vote of confidence in me and our great party, @OfficialPDPNig. You proved that my love for the Pace-Setter State over the years is not in vain.
“My promise to you is this: we shall work closely together in the mission to Recover Nigeria”, the politician tweeted.
The G5 governors fell out with Atiku after he defeated Wike at the PDP presidential primary in Abuja last May.
Only Governor Ortom of Benue has publicly declared support for his preferred 2023 presidential candidate – Peter Obi of the Labour Party(LP).
