‘God Will Never Give Power To The Wicked’, Wike Replies Atiku’s Camp

If there was any doubt still left that the G-5 members will not support the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, it was erased on Saturday when Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State said God will never give power to the “wicked” and those who will sell off Nigeria in a fraction of a second.

It was an unmistakable reference to the PDP flagbearer, who defeated him in a controversial party primary that was allegedly marred by massive vote-buying and “foul play.”

Flagging off the construction of Ogbo-Ihugbogbo Road in the Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state, Wike said, “We can never play God because we know the role that God has played in our lives.

“Don’t be treacherous because you want power…God will never give power to the wicked.”

The governor’s comment was a reaction to statements credited to Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; and his Delta State counterpart, Ifeanyi Okowa, who is Atiku’s running mate.

The Delta State governor had a rally in Delta on Friday boasted that Atiku will become president  and nobody including the G5 can stop it.

The G5 or the Integrity Group are five dissatisfied PDP governors led by Wike. Other members of the group are Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).

But reacting, Wike said the G5 has the backing of God and that explains why the group continues to wax stronger.

“Some people said it is only God that will decide who will be president and not G5…We are where we are because of God, nobody can even breathe air, if not God, not to talk about holding position,” the governor said on Saturday.

“So, nobody can tell us that it is only God; we know that it is only God that gives power but our prayer is to our God: don’t allow those who will sell off Nigeria in one second to be in power. Our prayer is: God, don’t allow anybody that You’ll have an agreement with and the next two minutes the person will change.

“Our prayer is: God, don’t allow those who will betray their brother when they have agreed with their brother to do something. God, may You never allow such persons and that is why God is still making G5 to be stronger.”

The governor also said statements like the one said to be made by Tambuwal infuriates him. “Somebody said they will handle us when we decide. These are the things that annoy us,” he said.

Tambuwal, who is also the Director General of the Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign organisation, had on Friday, warned that the PDP will take action againt the G-5 members when they announce their preferred presidential candidate in January.

  1. Good to know and we are in an interesting moment for more political drama towards the build up to this 2023 February 25th presidential election.
And PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar may be pushed into a political wilderness by the G5 or Integrity Group Governor’s as they also named. Recall that the fall of PDP at the federal government level was in 2015, boasted by the balkanization whereby five Govs left the party to merge with the opposition party APC that metamorphosed from various regional and national spread parties Acn, Ac, Anpp, Cpc, Apga and so called New PDP, creating Mega political party that won then and here history seems to repeat itself as they say and 2023, got all the trappings of that famous victory in 2015, and 2023 is your answer to your question.
