The Defence Headquarters says its troops have killed 30 terrorists who ambushed soldiers of the Guards Brigade in the Bwari area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Sunday.
CHECKPOINTCHARLEY had reported that Boko Haram terrorists ambushed military personnel while returning from the Nigerian Law School, where they had gone in response to a security alert by the school authorities of a looming attack by terrorists.
Two senior officers died in the attack.
But the Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, during a Bi-Weekly news conference on military operations in Abuja, disclosed that an operation by troops of 7 Guards Battalion and 167 Special Forces Battalion in conjunction with the air component of “Operation Whirl Punch” between Sunday and Tuesday lead to the killing of about 30 terrorists who carried out the attack.
He said the troops successfully cleared Kawu and Ido villages, neutralising the terrorists and destroying their enclave and hideout.
Six motorcycles, two AK47 rifles and one fully loaded LMG magazine amongst others were recovered, Onyeuko said.
He urged people to go about their normal business as their safety is guaranteed, but asked citizens to report unusual persons in their communities to security agencies.
