Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has beaten his Rivers State counterpart Nyesom Wike to emerg as the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
Mr. Okowa’s nomination was announced and confirmed by Atiku himself while addressing members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) at the party headquarters on Thursday,
Atiku said he consulted with all organs of the party.
“I am delighted to announce Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as my Vice Presidential candidate. I’m pleased to announce the one that will be by my side. I look forward to travelling our great country together, engaging with all Nigerians and building a shared future of peace, unity, and prosperity for all. As One We Can Get It Done.”
Okowa, who edged out Wike to emerge, will now be screened by a committee already setup for that purpose.
The Rivers governor had been the frontrunner until Thursday morning and had been widely rumoured to have been picked as the vice presidential candidate of the main opposition party.
