Alaafin Of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi Is Dead

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Atanda Olayiwola Adeyemi has died, Premium Times reports.

The monarch reportedly died on Friday at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekti.

He was aged 83.

Oba Adeyemi reigned for 52 years, making him the longest serving monarch in the state.

The monarch was said to have been sick for sometime and flight tickets had been bought for him and his wives to travel abroad for treatment before he passed on.

His death comes after the two other senior Oyo State monarchs, the Olubadan of Ibadan, Saliu Adetunji, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Jimoh Oyewumi, died – all within five months.

The governor of Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde had yet to comment on his death as at the time of filing this report.

The Agunloye Ruling House is expected to produce the next Oyo monarch.
