The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday arrested former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano as he tried to sneak out of the country through the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos.
This was few hours after he handed over to his successor, Prof Charles Soludo.
The former governor, who has been on the Commission’s watchlist for months, was arrested at about 8.30pm.
He was said to be on his way to Houston, Texas in the United States.
Recall that the Anti-Graft agency had in November placed Obiano on its watchlist and asked the Nigeria Immigration Service to alert it anytime the governor attempts to leave the from any of the international airports, as well as other points of exit.
It is yet unclear what his offence is, but it may not be unconnected with allegations of corruption during his time as Anambra State governor.
