Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode claims he had fiercely criticized President Muhammadu Buhari in the past out of ignorance.
Mr. Fani-Kayode said this while defending his controversial decision to join the ruling All Progressives Congress on ChannelsTV.
He spoke on Channels Television programme, ‘Politics Today’ on Thursday, hours after defecting to the APC from the opposition, Peoples Progressive Party, PDP.
This comes after years of spewing insults on the president and other APC members.
When asked about his verbal attacks on Buhari since 2015, he said, “I spoke against Buhari from the outside, now I know him from the inside. I am not saying he is an angel or a demon. The APC I was taking about that time is not same today. Let’s focus on unity, peace and togetherness.
“There is a time to condemn and criticise people. There is also a time to come together, work together to achieve unity.”
Responding to a question on his comment that he would rather die than join APC, the lawyer said, “Joining APC now is the away forward, despite what people may think about it.
“APC is a liberal party. A lot has happened in APC over the years. The party has changed and President has accommodated the change. Had the APC leadership not changed I wouldn’t have joined them.
“I am doing the right thing based on conviction and understanding. This is the right decision for me, love me or hate me, it will not take anything away from me.”
Before, going back to his vomit, as a social média influencer Peter Agba-Kalu put it, Fani-Kayode was a respected voice of dissent.
He was also the spokesperson for his former party, Peoples Democratic Party’s during the 2015 presidential campaign.
Fani-Kayode on Thursday officially joined the ruling party, ending months of rumours about his looming defection.
Nigerians have expressed their outrage on social media over his decision.
