Memphis Depay was given his first minutes in a Barcelona shirt on Saturday evening, and he scored the third goal in the 3-1 victory over Girona.
The Dutchman spoke after the game about how his 50 or so minutes felt and he thanked his teammates for making the transition easier.
“It feels amazing to play in this shirt,” he told Barcelona ‘s official media channels.
“It was tough, the first minutes in the match, but I really enjoyed it. The teammates helped me.”
Barcelona overcame Girona 3-1 in a pre-season friendly at the Estati Johan Cruyff, with Memphis Depay coming on as a substitute and scoring the final goal from the penalty spot.
It was a game of three penalties, with Gerard Pique and Samu Saiz both scoring first-half spot-kicks on either side of Rey Manaj’s latest pre-season strike.
The first big chance was for Girona, as Cristhian Stuani spun around Gerard Pique and provoked a save before Alejandro Balde made a great block on the rebound.
Pique had a more enjoyable moment 10 minutes later as he was able to score the opener from the penalty spot, even though his effort was initially saved and then turned in by the unfortunate hand of Juan Carlos.
The goalkeeper had more bad luck just a few minutes later, as a Rey Manaj shot bounced in off the Girona No.1’s legs.
