The police have killed a 14-year-old yoghurt seller while dispersing Yoruba Nation agitators with live bullets in the Ojota area of Lagos.
The minor, simply identified as Jumoke, was killed by bullets reportedly fired by a security operative.
The bullets ripped open her stomach.
She was reportedly displaying drinks at a shop when the bullet hit her.
The Yoruba Nation protesters had defied heavy presence of armed policemen and soldiers around Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota, Lagos to demand for Oduduwa Republic.
They chanted freedom songs, including, “No going back,” “We want Oodua Nation,” among others.
The protesters had gathered around 11.20 am while the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, was addressing journalists.
The police had also fired tear gas at the crowd.
Some of the agitators who spoke to newsmen said that it is time to have a separate nation for the Yoruba ethnic group, claiming that they don’t have anything in common with the other ethnic groups in Nigeria.
