The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has been arrested and handed over to the Nigerian government, the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, told newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said Kanu will soon be brought before the Federal High Court where he jumped bail.
He stated that Nnamdi Kanu was arrested on Sunday, but did not give details of where and how he was arrested.
The IPOB leader was later arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja,.
The presiding judge, Binta Nyako ordered accelerated hearing of the matter and remanded Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The remand order was sequel to an application by a federal government lawyer, Shuaibu Labaran.
The case has been scheduled for July 26 and July 27 2021 for hearing.
Kanu was granted bail in 2017, but he subsequently jumped bail and was declared wanted by the government.
The Nigerian government accuses Kanu of being responsible for various acts of violence recently in the southeast of the country.
