President Muhammadu Buhari has paid tribute to to former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in an air crash in Kaduna on Friday.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the president described the plane crash as “a mortal blow to our underbelly,” saying he was sad and sorrowful.
Buhari regretted that the incident happened at a time that men of the Armed Forces were “poised to end the security challenges facing Nigeria.”
President Buhari was quoted as describing the military officers as “heroes who paid the ultimate price for peace and security in the land.”
He pledged that the departed would not die in vain.
