The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu has vowed that the killing of Eastern Security Network top commander, Ikonso by those he called cowards will be avenged.
The IPOB leader said this in a live broadcast on Sunday, monitored by CHECKPOINTCHARLEY, stressing that, contrary to what is being claimed by the military, Ikonso was cowardly killed in his sleep, and not during exchange of fire.
The Nigerian Army had said in a statement on Saturday that the top ESN commander and six other members were killed earlier in the day during a joint raid of the Nigeria Police, the Nigerian Army and Department of State Services (DSS) on what they called the operational headquarters of ESN in Awomama Village Oru East LGA of Imo. An Army officer and three police operatives were also reportedly killed during exchange of fire.
But, in reaction, Kanu insisted that there was no such thing. “If it was in the battlefield, Ikonso could not have been killed because he was undefeatable.“
Kanu said he was saddened by his death, even more than when his parents were killed, threatening that all those who had a hand in his death are walking dead people.
He specifically accused Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma of inviting security operatives to “assassinate Ikonso while asleep in his village.“
He paid tribute to the fallen ESN commander, saying he was a son of God, who is now in heaven.
“Because of him, Imo people no longer have to fear to go to their farms because of killer herdsmen.“
