
Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke on Wednesday repelled gunmen, suspected to be loyal to killed warlord, Terwase Akwaza aka Gana, who had stormed a local market at Abaji in Shitile axis of Katsina Ala Local Government Area of Benue state in motorcyclcles, leading to the death of four persons with several others wounded.
The troops were said to have recovered one AK47 rifle and several ammunition after subduing the gunmen.
The gunmen, in military uniform, reportedly stormed the market around 5pm on motorcycles and started shooting indiscriminately. Two people died as a result.
Chairman of the local government, Alfred Atera, confirmed the attack.
The troops were said to have been immediately mobilised to the market to repel the gunmen.
It is understood that one of the troops was injured during the encounter.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene, said she was yet to be briefed on the incident, when contacted.
