The Imo State Police Command says it has released Senator for Imo West, Senator Rochas Okorocha.
Mr. Okorocha had been arrested on Sunday after he allegedly led thugs to unseal the Royal Palm Estate, which the government of Hope Uzodinma said it has confisticated.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Orlando Ikeokwu disclosed the release of the former governor on Monday while speaking on Channels Television‘s “Sunrise Daily”.
Ikeokwu had confirmed on Sunday that Okorocha and some of his aides were arrested for allegedly using thugs to break into his Royal Spring Palm Apartment sealed by the state government.
He identified those arrested alongside the ex-governor as Lasbery Okoroafoanyanwu, former commissioner for transport, Ijeoma Igboanusu, his former Chief of Staff, Domestics Affairs and Steve Asimobi, his current aide at the National Assembly.
The Imo State Government had also threatened that Okorocha would be dragged to court on Monday for destruction of government property.
The ex-governor however debunked the claim, noting that Governor Hope Uzodinma attacked him with more than “1,000 thugs”.
But speaking on the programme, Ikeokwu stated that the ex-governor was released later on Sunday night after he was “invited” for “questioning”.
“He was released later at night,” Ikeowku revealed, noted that, “If anybody is found culpable, definitely, he will be charged to court. If investigation proves that he (Okorocha) has committed an offence, he will be charged to court.”
