Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, has been released from Kuje Prison, Abuja, one week after the Court of Appeal quashed his conviction and ordered a retrial.
The spokesman, Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Humphrey Chukwuedo, confirmed his release.
Metuh was released from custody on Thursday, ten months after he was sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of N400 million money laundering by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The Court of Appeal had recently set aside his conviction, holding that the trial judge, Abang was biased against him.
The court also sent the case for retrial with instructions that it should be reassigned to a different judge.
Metuh had during his trial accused the judge of bias but his objection was dismissed by Justice Abang.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the agency that prosecuted Metuh has said it will appeal against the decision to the Supreme Court.
