Martins Adedeji Oni, a security officer at Nigerian Embassy Berlin, Germany has been sacked over allegations of corruption and sexual misconduct.
This was disclosed in a statement of Tuesday by embassy spokesperson, Mr. Peter Lambat, which was sent to CHECKPOINTCHARLEY.
It said Oni’s appointment has been terminated with immediate effect after a thorough investigation into the allegations against him.
CHECKPOINTCHARLEY had reported that Oni was suspended from duty on 17 November after reports emerged that he had curried sexual favours in return for help with the renewal of a passport. He was also accused of extorting money from vulnerable passport applicants.
The security officer was also seen in a viral video on social media, half-naked in a hotel room arguing with an unidentified person who accused him of demanding sex from females who applied for passport renewals.
The Embassy had in a swift response, constituted an Investigation Committee to examine the allegations and any related issues, and to make recommendations for action.
The statement said, “the Committee interviewed Mr Oni and other witnesses as part of a thorough examination of these very serious charges. It concluded that Mr Oni was culpable and in violation of all the relevant codes. As a result, Mr. Martins Adedeji Oni contract with the Embassy as a Local Staff has been terminated .
