Dozens of angry youths on Monday attacked the house of the Chairman of Benue State All Progressive Congress, Abba Yaro, who was accused of causing the death of his security by forcing him to cut branches of a tree torching high cable wires, which eventually led to his electrocution.
The house, which is located along judges’ quarters behind the permanent site of Zone 4 Police headquarters in Makurdi, was destroyed with the three vehicles in the compound.
CHECKPOINTCHARLEY was informed by a resident that the youths in the area were irked when found the dead body of a young man who worked as a security guard in the chairman’s house was found dangling on the tree and found out that he was electrocuted while cutting the branches of a tree that is touching high tension wire on the orders of his employer.
This infuriated the youths, who invaded the compound of Mr. Yaro, pulled down the gate, and destroyed the house.
He later told the press that members of his household would have been hurt if not for the timely intervention of the police.
The APC chairman thanked Governor Samuel Ortom, who personally visited the house, noting that the prompt intervention of the governor and police saved his people from attack.
