The Nigerian Senate has told president Muhammadu Buhari that there is an urgent need to address the nation as a result of the ongoing nationwide protests by youths against police brutality and bad governance.
The Senate decision followed a point of order on Tuesday by Senator Biodun Olujimi, titled, “#EndSARS: The need for a comprehensive reform.”
Since the protests erupted on October 8, the president has not deemed it fit, as father of the nation, to address the youths.
In any case, the senators further asked Mr. Buhari to immediately set up a judicial panel of enquiry to identify the notorious SARS operatives and ensure their arrest and prosecution
The Senate also directed the police to offer protection to the #EndSARS protesters to prevent hoodlums from hijacking the protests.
They pleaded with the protesters to stop their agitation on the streets to enable the Federal Government address their demands.
