In a shocking U-turn, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has denied saying lawmakers got 60 per cent of the contracts awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
Mr. Akapabio issued the denial in his reply to the National Assmebly.
Recall that Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila had given the minister 48 hours to name the legislators who got the said contracts following the bombshell he dropped while testifying before the House. Akpbio had accused members of the National Assembly of being part of the problem in NDDC. He said on live television that most of the contracts were awarded to them.
Gbajabiamila announced the receipt of Akpabio’s response on Thursday, saying the minister claimed to have referred to old contracts awarded by the NDDC which had not been paid for and some of which are part of the constituency projects of the lawmakers.
The speaker said Akpabio’s response would be referred to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges to look at the merits of the minister’s arguments.
