The immediate past group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru, has died at the age of 60.
His death was announced on Saturday by Mele Kyari, the current GMD of the NNPC..
“My brother, my friend and my mentor, Dr Maikanti Kachalla Baru, immediate past GMD of NNPC died late last night.
“He was of exemplary character and disposition. May Allah forgive him and have mercy upon him,” Kyari said.
Baru was appointed NNPC GMD by President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2016, a position he held up until 2019.
He retired from NNPC in July 2019 after he clocked the age of 60.
Baru was from Bauchi state.
