COVID-19: Akwa Ibom Rejects 10 ‘Old And Incapable’ Vehicles Donated By ExxonMobil

Exxonmobil-2

Akwa Ibom State Government has rejected ten ‘old and incapable’ vehicles donated by ExxonMobil to aid contact tracing of suspected COVID-19 patients in the state.

The government had thanked the company for the donation made on Friday. However, in a statement issued on Sunday by Commissioner of Information, Charles Udoh, it made a dramatic U-turn, describing the vehicles as too old and incapable of withstanding the rigour of contact tracing.

The statement said the government’s decision followed an evaluation of the vehicles and other donations made by the company.

“The vehicles are considered too old and not in good enough operational conditions to withstand the rigour of contact tracing which they were meant to serve,” the statement had said.

The statement however revealed that the state government had accepted the two ambulances and 20 hospital beds also donated by the oil company.
