Residents of Iluabo, a suburb of Akure were jolted early Saturday morning by an explosion, which many residential houses, a church building and a school.
Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu confirmed the explosion on Twitter Saturday morning, saying there had been a “loud blast” and that he was headed to the “scene to assess”.
I’ve been briefed by security agencies in the state concerning the loud blast that was heard in Akure. I will be at the scene to assess on the advise of heads of our security agencies.
I ask that all citizens remain calm as we ascertain details of the incidence.

The incident, which happened less than a kilometre to Akure Airport, affected many residents of Eleyowo community.
Many people were said to have been wounded.
The blast reportedly happened when a truck conveying explosives to a quarry in another state exploded at the airport junction area of Akure.
On March 15, an explosion in Abule Ado area of Lagos led to the death of 22 people and the destruction of many houses.
As at the time of filing this report, the casualties figures and the extent of damage remained unclear.
