Nigerians have expressed their outrage on Social Media over photos of President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter, Hanan flying a presidential jet to a private ceremony in Bauchi.

According to Daily Nigerian, Hanan was invited to the Durbar by Rilwanu Adamu, Emir of Bauchi, on Thursday.

It is understood that, as a professional photographer, she was expected to document the event and other tourist attractions in the state.

However, Nigerians on Twitter condemned the use of Air Force 1 for a private engagement by the president’s daughter.

Demola Olarewaju, a Twitter user, wrote that Hanan’s use of the presidential plane amounted to abuse of power.

He said, “Hanan Buhari’s use of a Presidential aircraft for a private engagement is a public example of how Buhari has pocketed all Govt institutions for the exclusive use of he and his families.

“Buhari’s own use of that same aircraft for private engagements is a fuzzy area but can be couches under his being President.

“His daughter using it is a gross abuse of office, an insult to the poor masses of Nigeria and a waste of taxpayer funds, oil revenue and borrowed monies.”

But Garba Shehu, a media aide to Mr. Buhari, said in reaction that the presidential jet can be used by President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife and children.

The presidential spokesman told the Punch that the presidency authorised the use of the plane and informed the office of the national security adviser (NSA).

Shehu said, “It’s true that a member of the First Family was flown to Bauchi yesterday on a mission duly authorised.

“It wasn’t an impromptu or improper trip because it followed normal procedure. The Presidency informed the National Security Adviser of the mission who in turn informed the Commander of the Presidential Air Fleet.

“The normal practice in existence for a long time is that the Presidential Air fleet is available to the President and the first family and four others.

“These four are the Vice President, the Senate President the Speaker and any other person(s) authorised by the President.”
