Elisha Abbo, the senator accused of beating a nursing mother in Abuja sex shop, has been honoured with “Beacon of Hope” award.
Senator Abbo, representing Adamawa north, received the award at the 4th edition of the Adamawa Celebrities and Achievers Awards (ACAA) held in Yola, Adamawa state capital.
Recall that sometime this year, Mr. Abbo — Nigeria’s youngest senator, was seen in a video that went viral on Social media, beating a female attendant at a sex shop.
The incident was said to have occurred on May 11, a month before he was sworn in at the national assembly.
Interesting the senator is one of the big supporters of the bill to regulate the social media.
He is currently facing trial for assault and faces the prospect of three year jail term if convicted.
Abbo later apologised but pleaded not guilty in court after being charged with assault.
Senator Abbo had also received an “Icon of Democracy’ by the Inter-community Awareness for Change and Development Initiative (IACDI)” shortly after he beat up the woman.
