Flabbergasted Orji Kalu, former Governor of Abia State, who was sentenced to 12 yearsin prison on Thursday by Justice Idris Mohammed for N7.1billion fraud, was seen begging prison warders after his conviction not to disgrace him in public by handcuffing him.
A shocked Kalu, who was yet to come to terms with the dramatic change in his life, was heard asking the warders, “where are you taking us to?
“Where are you taking us to now? Please don’t handcuff me. I will follow you.”
Kalu is the Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate.
Kalu’s associate, Udeogu, was sentenced to 10 years in prison while the company which was used in perpetrating the fraud, Slok Limited, was ordered to be wound up.
