The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Chido Onumah, coordinator of African Centre for Media & Information Literacy (AFRICMIL) hours after he was arrested at the Abuja airport.
His early release may not be unconnected with public outcry against his arrest.
Sources close to Onumah said he was released Sunday night, hours after he was arrested at the Abuja airport.
Mr. Onumah was returning from a trip to Spain when he was arrested.
He is a fierce critic of president Muhammadu Buhari government.
The DSS is yet to speak on why he was taken into custody.
