The National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abia State has nullified the election of Senate Chief Whip Orji Uzor Kalu.
The tribunal ordered a rerun election for the Abia North Senatorial District to be conducted in selected polling units within 90 days..
Kalu was elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress and was inaugurated as federal lawmaker for the 9th National Assembly.
Mao Ohuabunwa of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had challenged Kalu` victory.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Kalu winner of the senatorial election after securing 30,203 votes against Ohuabunwa’s 20,801 votes.
But the tribunal upheld Ohuabunwa’s argument that Kalu was not duly elected.
The polling units which cut across three local government areas, were identified as where votes were cancelled during the poll.
Until the annulment, Kalu was the Senator representing Abia North at the National Assembly.
