Ighalo Emulates Rashidi Yekini, Wins AFCON Golden Boot

Odion Ighalo on Friday became the second Nigerian after the legendary Rashidi Yekini to win the highest goal scorer golden boot at the just concluded 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles forward netted five goals, two clear of his closest challengers Adam Ounas and Sadio Mane of Algeria and Senegal respectively.

The Shanghai Shenhua of China star striker grabbed his fifth goal of the tournament in the third-place match between Nigeria and Tunisia on Wednesday night, while his debut AFCON goal was in Nigeria’s first group B game against Burundi.

He scored a brace in the 3-2 thriller against Cameroon in the round of 16  and made it four from the spot in the 2-1 loss to Algeria in the semi-final.
