The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku abubakar has formally filed the petition challenging the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the February 23 presidential election.

Atiku filed the petition before the tribunal in Abuja on Monday,  his counsel, Mr. Chris Uche SAN, confirmed.

The PDP candidate is asking the tribunal to declare him authentic winner of the election or order that a fresh poll should be conducted.

Recall that Atiku and his party had rejected the result of that election, alleging manipulation of results, intimidation and disenfranchisemnt of PDP voters.

They had promised to challenge the result in court.

A court had recently granted PDP’s application for access to election materials. However, the court turned down its request to check the materials forensically.

Addressing journalists later, Emmanuel Enoidem, PDP national legal adviser, said Atiku and the PDP have in their team 20 senior advocates of Nigeria (SAN) and that they are confident of victory.

We have also lined up more than 400 witnesses that are going to testify in this petition, he revealed.

Mr. Enoidem said,  “We asked that our candidate who won the election massively across the country be declared the winner.

“In the alternative, we also asked that the election be set aside on the ground of irregularity which was apparent across the country.”

Atiku had described the 2019 presidential election as the worst in Nigerian history.

INEC had announced that he lost to Buhari by over three million votes.#

The PDP had however claimed that it has the “real” results, which gave its candidate victory.
