INEC Spent N226m Administering Oath On Adhoc Staff, Budget Reveals

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) spent a whooping N226.3m in administering a mere oath of allegiance on members of the National Youth Service Corps and other ad hoc officials for the general elections.

This is contained in INEC’s budget for the 2019 general elections.

The printing of 730,000 copies of oath of loyalty and neutrality forms cost N10 each, while the administration of oaths on all election personnel and staff was estimated at N300 per personnel, the budget revealed.

About one million ad hoc personnel, mainly drawn from the NYSC, were recruited for the elections.

According to INEC, N10m was spent in print certificates of returns for winners of the Presidential, governorship and legislative elections.

INEC’s 2019 budget is N189bn and the commission will spend over N847, 179, 885 replacing the 4, 695 smart card readers destroyed by fire in Anambra State on February 12.

INEC had also insured its property against fire, burglary, electoral violence and malicious damage for N131m.
