Masked persons, suspected to be police officers have reportedly whisked away recuperating Senator Dino Melaye from the Police Clinic in Garki, Abuja, in a commando-style, to an undisclosed location.
But it is presumed that the senator, representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, is being taken to Lokoja, Kogi State, for interrogation over his alleged involvement in the shooting of one Sgt. Danjuma Aliu by suspected political thugs, the police claim are loyal to him.
Unclear however, is whether the policemen had the nod of the clinic medical director to snatch Mr. Melaye from his hospital bed.
Mr. Melaye’s friend, who does not want his name in print, told CHECKPOINTCHARLEY that the “abduction” of the senator happened around 2.20 pm.
The senator, a staunch critic of the President Muhammadu Buhari government, had been rushed to the clinic for medical attention after he slumped last Friday following his arrest.
Mr. Melaye, a political enemy of Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, has maintained that the charges against him are politically motivated.
The Police PPRO at Force Headquarters, Abuja, Jimoh Moshood, is yet to comment on the development as at the time of filing this report.
