The presidential candidate of the Alliance of Social Democrats (ASD), John Dara, has suggested the “Arab Spring” type of revolution “to cast off the yoke of mediocrity, lawlessness and oppression” in Nigeria.
Mr. Dara said this in his New Year message, signed by the Director of Communications of his Campaign Organisation, Jeffrey Abidoye, and released in Abuja on Saturday, saying 2019 is “our year of national deliverance and great opportunities.”
He urged Nigerians to mobilise and “use their votes to overthrow the existing order.”
The ASD presidential candidate argued that the suppressors of the masses are not the problems of Nigeria but the citizens, elites and media, “who submit themselves, rationalise and cooperate with the existing order.”
He therefore recommended himself and his running mate, Salisu Abubakar as the consensus candidates to lead the revolution.
The statement partly read, “This is the year to cast off the yoke of mediocrity, lawlessness and oppression.
“This is the year to give Nigeria a new era of good governance, security and rapid development.
“Unfortunately, we have a penchant for wasting and missing our opportunities. This must be different. Nigeria needs a spontaneous revolutionary mass action like the ‘Arab Spring’.
“Nigerians must mobilise and use their votes to overthrow the existing order. There is enough time before the elections to mobilise, organise and orchestrate the necessary changes.”
Mr. Dara is from Kwara State, while his running mate is from Edo State.
