President Muhammadu Buhari has told Imo people to shun Mr. Uche Nwosu, Governor Rochas Okrocha’s son-in-law and other people juxtaposing his picture with theirs on campaign posters, declaring his support for the Imo All Progressives Congress (APC), governorship candidate, Sen. Hope Uzodinma.
The APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole made this known at a rally to flag-off Uzodimma’s campaign in Owerri on Friday.
Mr. Oshiomhole asked Imolites to disregard people from unknown parties, who are attaching Buhari’s picture with theirs on campaign posters, saying Uzodinma was the only candidate endorsed by the president.
He said, “Those who are putting Buhari with their faces because they are unknown are fake. Buhari has APC as his party.
“Buhari has adopted Uzodinma as his governorship candidate.
“We brought you a message of hope not a message of lamentation and family business.
“We have come to deliver the message of hope that although things have gone wrong in the recent past, we have come to say how we will return the governance of the state to the people.
“The government that is coming will bring development for every son and daughter of Imo. Today is not a concert but a day to pass the message of hope.
“You have a reason for demanding change.”
The APC national chairman promised imo workers that the incoming Uzodinma’s government will not neglect them, adding that ever again will your governor look at you and say your salary depends on when you work not when it is due.
“The days are gone when a governor will look at the people and say there is money for other things but not for paying salaries.
“In Uzodinma’s government, appointments will be based on merit and not family connection. We will not domesticate happiness in the hands of a few people because all Imo people will be happy,” Oshiomhole said.
He further assured that “roads and other contracts will not be awarded to in-laws but to genuine men and women of Imo State”.
“Never again shall we govern on the basis of family connection. Knowing somebody or not, or marrying from a family or not will no longer matter. Your money will be used to develop Imo” he added.
Mr. Nwosu, disgruntled over the outcome of the APC governorship primary, had earlier in the month formally defected to the Action Alliance, AA, in his bid to realize his governorship ambition, which has divided the Imo people and his former party, APC.
The former chief of staff to Governor Okorocha, had lost the APC governorship ticket to Senator Hope Uzodinma under controversial circumstances.
Despite defecting to another party, Mr. Nwosu had however that he and his group are going to work with APC to deliver Imo State to President Muhammadu Buhari.
He had said, “We will deliver Governor Rochas Okorocha as senator because Action Alliance has no senatorial candidate in Orlu zone.
“I have no problem with President Muhammadu Buhari. My headache is the National Chairman of APC.
“It is a divine project and we are ready for the election. It is an inter-party marriage between AA and APC in Imo State.
“We will work with APC to deliver President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Rochas Okorocha, myself and all our candidates.”
