The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar on Monday visited the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, in a bid to appease him over the choice of Peter Obi as his running mate.
Mr. Atiku, who was recently turbaned as the Waziri of Adamawa, was accompanied on the visit by the Senate President and Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Bukola Saraki, PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus and the National Organising Secretary of the party, Col. Austin Akobundu (retd.).
It is understood that Mr. Ekweremadu had not been happy with the choice of Mr. Obi as Atiku’s running mate because he had hoped he would be the natural choice.
But he was told during the visit that Obi was picked in the interest of the zone in particular and the nation in general.
It is gathered that the visitors explained to the deputy senate president that Obi does not have any corruption case against him and that he does not belong to any faction of the party.
He was further told that Obi’s emergence has made the Atiku’s candidacy more acceptable across the country.
