A man in Edo State, who was arrested by the Police for killing his mother, has said he strangled the woman to death and then slept with her corpse for money ritual.
The 18-year-old suspect, Samuel Akpobome was paraded on Wednesday by the Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, along with over 80 other suspects arrested for various offences.
In his case, the CP said that the crime was reported at the Ologbo Police Station by one Patrick Ogiegbede at about 6am on October 29.
The suspect later explained to the press how he strangled the victim, Christiana Ighoyivwi in her sleep at her residence on Market Road, Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state.
Akpobome, a native of Delta State and said to be the youngest child of the deceased, said he killed his mother on the advice of a voodoo priest, admitting that the victim did not offend him.
“I killed her solely because of money.
“I wanted to use her (Christiana) for money rituals. I strangled her; she was sleeping when I strangled her at about 5am. I was advised by a native doctor in Oghara to kill her. After killing her, I slept with her. The native doctor told me to do so and keep her corpse for two days,” the suspect said.
According to him, the native doctor told him to kill my mother and sleep with her corpse.
But Akpobome could not cover up his crime as his grandmother saw her daughter’s lifeless body and raised the alarm, which led to his arrest.
He said that he did not know that his grandmother was sitting outside and when he opened the door to go out, she saw the corpse inside the room and raised, which drew the attention of co-tenants.
