Amid outrage by Nigerians over President Muhammadu Buhari submitting excuses to the Independent National Electoral Commissuon (INEC), instead of his WAEC, the commission’s chairman, Mahmood Yakubu has met Buhari’s Chief of Staff (COS), Abba Kyari behind closed doors.
The meeting took place on Friday inside the office of the chief of staff and lasted for about thirty minutes.
Mr. Yakubu refused to speak with State House correspondents after the meeting as he left.
As at the time of filing this report, the presidency was yet to issue a statement on the meeting.
CHECKPOINTCHARLEY had reported that President Buhari fialed again, like in 2014, failed to submit WAEC, as required by law.
Despite being the commander-in-chief, Buhari explained again that his WAEC is in the custody of the military.
In the affidavit which he swore to, he said, “I am the above named person and the deponent of this affidavit herein. All my academic qualification documents as filled in my Presidential form, APC/001/2015 are currently with the Secretary of the Military Board as of the time of this affidavit.”
However, Nigerians had taken to the social media to express their anger, demanding that Mr. Buhari must submit his school certificate.
Interestingly, Mr. Yakubu had said in a press conference he held earlier on Friday before the meeting that those in doubt of claims by candidates in the 2019 elections could head to the court.
Talking about the personal particulars provided by the candidates, Mr. Yakubu said anyone suspecting false claims has the right to file legal action against such candidate.
He said, “Any person with reasonable ground to believe that any information on form CF001 submitted by a candidate contains incorrect or false claims is at liberty to file an action against such candidate at the federal high court or the high court of a state or FCT.”
