. 28 IPOB Members Laid Down Their Lives To Save Me From Nigerian Troops
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has said that he is coming back to Nigeria to continue the peaceful agitation for the State of Biafra and that nothing can stop the realization of that dream.
Mr. Kanu said this in his much anticipated world press broadcast on Sunday in Jerusalem, Israel, saying he will only be ready to defend himself in the “kangaroo court” of Justice Binta Nyako, under certain conditions, which include the involvement of the international community and non interference of the Executive .
He castigated the judge for not holding an evidential hearing into the military invasion of his Afara Ukwu residence by soldiers of the Nigerian Army on September 14, 2017.
The IPOB leader said that Justice Nyako failed to protect “a ward of her court,” being that he is on bail.
“Contrary to the lies being peddled, I did not jump bail.
“Anybody with rudimentary knowlegde of law would know that to jump bail must be intentional.”
But according to him, the mililtary invasion by troops, “with the aim to kill me” made it impossible for him to keep his court date.
He said the soldiers came to kill him in order to prevent him from appearing in Binta Nyako’s court to prove his innonence.
In the speech, Kanu narrated how he escaped being killed by the Nigerian soldiers during, saying 28 people who defended him were killed.
He said the intelligence arm of IPOB prevented the troops from getting him.
Kanu said, “Two jets were hovering over and they stormed the compound and I sustained several injuries and in the process of trying to defend me, 28 men fell,” he said.
“The sole purpose of that evil dance was to kill me and members of my family. They didn’t want me to go to Abuja because they didn’t have any case against me. They were afraid they would be disgraced before the world. They decided to eliminate me instead. They know if I go to court, that very country will not be the same again.
“I am Nnamdi Kanu, no mortal flesh can kill me. They have not given birth to that very person. Since they didn’t want me to come to court, I shall come back to Biafra land. There is nobody who can accuse IPOB of engaging in any form of lawlessness. I am in Israel.
“This same court that granted me bail stood by and watched as the army disobeyed court order. The army in contempt of court court came to kill me. I was in my home preparing to go to Abuja for my case when they came to kill me. They even killed Jack, our dog. They killed my cousin, Adaku and 28 others. The notion that I jumped bail is a fallacy, a lie and a deceit. It is untenable in law.”
The IPOB leader insisted that he has done nothing prohibited by Nigerian or international law to warrant his “persecution” by the Nigerian State, adding that the agitation for Biafra is a peaceful movement and that he has never carried a weapon.
“My only weapon has been the microphone and the brain given to me by my God.
“I’m for peace; Nnamdi Kanu is for peace, but when I speak they are ready for war,” Kanu said.
He also made it clear that IPOB will not participate in the 2019 General Election since the group demand for a referendum has not been met.
“IPOB will liberate Biafra and we will not take part in any election, until we get a referendum and this is not negotiable. We will achieve this by every necessary means. We thank Isreal for all the contributions they made to IPOB,” the IPOB leader declared.
Mr. Kanu further berated mainstream Nigerian media for its bias in reporting the events of 14 September, 2017.
Kanu ended his speech by thanking all those who stood surety for him and by IPOB during the period of his disappearance. He also thanked personally Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Pa Adebanjo and Israel Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, who he also wished a happy birthday. He added that he owes his survival to the State of Israel.
Kanu also thanked President Donald, Prof Ben Nwabueze, who he said stood by him and the embattled ex-governor of Ekiti State Ayo Fayose.
“I want to send my solidarity to Ayo Fayose and assure him that Biafra will stand by him in this hour of need. We will have a special place for him in Biafra,” he said, adding that their names will be written in gold in history.
Though Mr. Kanu said he will be coming home to continue with the struggle to liberate Biafra, he did not name a date for his return. Remarkably, he said he will be coming with hell despite saying the Biafra movement was a peaceful one.
The Defence Headquarters is yet to react to Kanu’s speech and threat. But on Saturday the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen John Agim said the military will conduct another round of Operation Python Dance in the South-East region, explaining that the conduct of Python Dance in the South-East region was necessary to combat any form of kidnapping and armed robbery as the end of the year neared.
Mr. Kanu went missing after the military invasion and had not been seen since then until he was sighted in Jerusalem on Friday, praying at the Wailing Wall.
