Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, SenatorAdemola Adeleke, has castigated the ongoing rerun election in seven units in the state as a “coup” and not election.
Mr. Adeleke, on Thursday told the press that PDP supporters were being denied access to ballot papers in the governorship rerun election.
He said, “What is happening in Osun State now is not an election. What we have is a coup. That is what we are witnessing now.
“Our supporters are being harassed and are not allowed to vote at all. Let the whole world know that this is not the democracy.”
A video sent to CHECKPOINTCHARLEY by an observer on the ground confirmed what Mr. Adeleke said. In the video, heavily armed policemen marched through the streets of Ile-Ife, shooting sporadically in what is said to be an attempt to scare away voter (PDP supporters) from coming out to vote.
CHECKPOINTCHARLEY was authoritatively informed that police operatives blocked the Mayfair roundabout in Ife, so as to prevent voters, believed to be Adeleke’s supporters, from gaining access to two rerun polling booths – the round about is the only road that leads to the polling units in Oyere and Olode areas.
The observer also said that he was reliably informed that certain agents shared face caps with Nigerian coat of arms last night. It is alleged that those wearing the cap (APC voters) are the only ones allowed to move around on election day. However, CHECKPOINTCHARLEY was not able to confirm the allegation as at the time of filing this report.
