Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said he will do all to prevent the taking over of Rivers State by “two business partners,” so that the Lagos-Style is not replicated in the state.
Mr. wike said this at a Youth event in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
The governor did not mention the name of the “two business partners,” but he was obviously referring to Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi and businessman, Tonye Cole.
The Social Media is already abuzz with a campaign against alleged Amaechi’s plan to give the APC governorship ticket to Mr. Cole, who the campaigners say is not a “full-blooded” Rivers State indigene.
The Rivers State governor vowed that what happened in Lagos will not be replicated in Rivers State – also referring to the foisting of Ambrose Ambode as governor on Lagosians by National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
Mr. Wike further declared that he will seek re-election in 2019, claiming that his decision was premised on the support of youths from the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
He said, “I want to tell you that I am prepared for that election (2019). Since the youths are the ones saying that I should come out to contest, I am ready to come out.
“Let the security agencies know that we are prepared. When they are thinking of shooting, they will fall asleep, until the elections are over and we are declared winners.
“We will not allow two business partners to take over this state. We are aware in Rivers State. Nobody can do to this state the charade that is obtainable in Lagos State.
“People intentionally sold key assets of Rivers State to themselves and now they want to take more through business partnership. They sold to themselves the gas turbines, sold to themselves Olympia Hotel and Abonnema Wharf. If we allow them, they will sell the whole GRA to themselves. They should know that we are prepared.”
CHECKPOINTCHARLEY could not get Mr. Amaechi’s response as at the time of filing this report, as his phone was switched off. The transport minister is currently in China with President Muhammadu Buhari.
