Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Wednesday raised the alarm that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has invited government officials to its office.

Ortom, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, alleged that the EFCC had “continued to ground the state government” with invitation of government officials to EFCC office.

The anti-graft agency had, a few weeks ago, disclosed that it was investigating the state government of N22bn.

A few days after, the state government raised the alarm that the agency had frozen its account. But the account was later unfrozen.

The Commissioner of Finance, David Olofu, while reacting to the freezing of the state accounts, disclosed that he and other government officials have been a regular visitor to EFCC.

Speaking on the new development, the governor hinted that the anti-graft agency had “reduced the persecution to ridiculous level by demanding the minutes of the state security council meeting.”

According to him, “EFCC is still on victimising the state because what happens now is that everyday, the commission invites not less than seven government officials to Abuja.

“Government activities have been grounded.

“The victimisation has reached a ridiculous level now, as the Commission is demanding minutes of the security council meeting,” Akase said.
