The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has registered the Alternative Party of Nigeria and 22 new political parties, barely eight months to the 2019 general election.
INEC has also extended the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks, CHANNELS reports.
The commission had initially said that registration will end on August 17 until after the 2019 general elections.
Meanwhile, the national chairpersons and secretaries of the newly registered parties have been invited the to receive their respective certificates of registration at the INEC headquarters on August 16 in Abuja.
The 23 new political parties now brings to 91, the number of political parties in the country.
Other newly approved parties include The Advanced Alliance Party, Liberation Movement, Save Nigeria Congress, United Patriots, Youth Party, and We The People Nigeria.
