Saraki, National Assembly Leaders Hold Emergency Meeting Today

The President of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki, will today meet with the leaderships of the two chambers of the National Assembly.

The Special Assistant to the Senate President on International Relations, Bankole Omisore, disclosed this via his Twitter handle on Monday.

The tweet reads, “NASS leadership will tomorrow meet at noon to consider some national issues. The National Assembly leadership comprises both @NGRSenate and @HouseNGR.

“It will be followed by another meeting with the leadership of @inecnigeria led by its Chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu.

CHECKPOINTCHARLEY is told that the principal officers would discuss pressing national issues seeking the urgent attention of the National Assembly.

The officials are expected to meet for one hour beginning at noon, after which both chambers would be briefed by INEC on the 2019 general elections.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, will then meet with the lawmakers at 1 p.m.

Due to the pressing nature of the matters to be discussed, which include pending election supplememntary budget, sources said National Assembly leadership may consider the possibility of reconvening the National Assembly.

The government of President Muhammadu Buhari has being begging the National Assembly to cut short its recess and attend to INEC supllementary budget.

The Senate and the House of Representatives had proceeded on annual recess on July 24 and will normally reconvene on September 25.
