Embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Tuesday got a rousing reception from PDP senators when he stormed the National Assembly in a rickety vehicle on Tuesday in a surprise visit amid tension generated by a faiiled attempt to impeach him by APC Senators.
His appearance generated loud shouts of PDP slogan from Senators and House of Representatives members loyal to him who were keeping vigil at the NASS lobby.
Operatives of the Department of State Services and Nigeria Police had sealed the National Assembly Tuesday morning to allegedly aid APC senators, loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari, remove Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu from office.
But the move was thwarted by senators loyal to Saraki, who defied the security officials and forced themselves into NASS complex to block the entrance into the senate before the arrival of the APC senators.
The failed plot took another twist when Acting President Yemi Osinbajo sacked the controversial DSS director-general, Lawal Daura for his role in the saga.
The heat has been on Saraki since he announced his defection recently from the ruling party to the opposition, PDP.
The leadership of the APC has called on him to resign as senate president. But such calls are not supported by the constitution or any law known to it.
