CHECKPOINTCHARLEY has obtained an agreement signed by 48 Nigerian senators to stop the plot by some senators, loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari, to impeach the senate president, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
This comes barely hours after the invasion of the democratic institution of the National Assembly by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, and Nigeria Police.
It is alleged that the security opertaives sealed the National Assemby in order to facilitate Saraki’s impeachment by pro-Buhari senators.
However, the plot was foiled by pro-Saraki senators who defied the DSS and police and forcifully entered the red chamber to prevent the plot.
This forced the pro-Buhari senators to relocate to a hotel in Central Abuja, where it is understood they will attempt to remove Saraki as senate president.
Meanhwile in the agreement, the pro-Saraki senators said they will resist any illegal change of leadership of the Senate.
