UPDATED! APC Candidate, Fayemi Surges To Landslide Victory In Ekiti Governorship Election

Despite early results showing a tight race, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC Kayode Fayemi, surged to a landslide victory, according to the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the 16 local councils in the Ekiti State governorship election held on Saturday.

So far, Dr. Fayemi, who was governor of the state between 2010 and 2014, has won in 12 of the 16 local government areas as announced by electoral officials. The APC candidate also won Irepodun-Ifelodun, the local government of outgoing governor, Ayodele Fayose.

In that LGA, Fayemi polled 13,869 votes. The PDP candidate, Prof. Olusola Eleka got 11,456 votes.

INEC headquarters in Ado-Ekiti is set to confirm the results from the local councils Sunday morning and declare Fayemi the winner.

According to reports from local council collation centers, Fayemi also won in Oye LGA, Ilejemeje, Ido-Osi, Gbonyin and Moba.

However, he narrowly lost Ado-Ekiti.

Mr. Fayemi had lost the 2014 Ekiti governorship election, which he had alleged was heavily rigged.
